In Memory
Diane Daniell "Danni" Allman
April 24, 1947 - February 24, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Diane (Danni) Daniell Allman on Monday, February 24, 2025, at the age of 77. She was the beloved wife of Bob Allman for 55 wonderful years. She was a devoted mother to Jay Robert Allman (Carrie) and Lindsay Allman Merten (Adam), and a cherished grandmother to her five grandsons, Connor Allman, Ryan Allman, Hal Merten, Bobby Merten, and Brady Merten. She also was a loyal, joyful friend who touched the lives of so many with her kindness, generosity, humor, and unwavering love.
Danni was born in Pittsburgh and grew up in Mt. Lebanon. She attended Mt. Lebanon High School and was a member of the Rockettes as part of the marching band. After high school, she attended West Virginia Wesleyan College. There she received a degree in education and met the love of her life, Bob Allman. Their love was strong and enduring through life's ups and downs. Not only did she capture the heart of Bob, but also all of his Theta Chi fraternity brothers, becoming the sweetheart of the fraternity.
After graduation, and a short stay in Fort Devens, Massachusetts and Devon, Pennsylvania, Bob and Danni moved back to Mt. Lebanon. Danni began her teaching career at Howe Elementary School allowing Bob to attend law school. She left her teaching career when she became a mother to Jay and Lindsay. She always gave her full attention and support to the needs and activities of her kids, whether it was sports, school, music events, and she always made sure her family had delicious meals on the table. She gave the same love and support to her five grandsons who lovingly call her “Ma”.
Outside the care she gave her family, she was very active. She enjoyed playing paddle tennis, racquetball, and running, including completing five marathons. In addition, she volunteered her time to help others. At Southminster Church, she was the director of the food pantry for many years. She also served as a deacon and an elder, taught Sunday school, and chaired the search committee that called Graham Robinson as the youth minister of the church.
She was also the self-appointed social chair and director for her friends and family. She was the hostess with the mostest! Her creativity resulted in many organized and compulsory activities for her family and friends, such as fitness week at the beach. Her goal was always to bring joy and laughter to everyone around her and she succeeded due to her upbeat, funny sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents Averell E. Daniell and Elizabeth S. Daniell. She is survived by her family named above and her siblings Regina Smith, Donna Barley, and David Daniell.
A celebration of life will be held at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 799 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15228 on Saturday, March 8, 2025, with Visitation with the Family at 12:00 pm, Celebration Service at 1:00 pm and Reception at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Southminster Presbyterian Church Food Pantry (https://www.spchurch.org/give/) in her honor and memory.
Though Danni is no longer with us, her love and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
