i check every now and then to see if anyone has remembered mike in this melancholy portion of our class profiles.  i'll take a shot.  like many others, i liked the hound a lot.   we spent a fair amount of time together doing a lot of the things that make boys, boys.  mike was smart, funny, and tough.  there was an undercurrent of something unknowable about him.  who knows what went on behind all those secure doors that fronted our homes?  i have a letter dated sep't 18, 1971 from spec./4 lane, dateline istanbul.  it is well written, quite witty, and holds up even 41 years later.  no, he didn't tell me why istanbul is no longer constantinople.  i guess he figured it's nobody's business but the turks.

It is my recollection that Mike and I both went to Howe Elementary School.  As Irwin said, I did not know him well, but I counted on Mike to be a part of everything that went on.  I am sorry to learn of his passing at what for me feels like an early age!
